“Each color of stone has different things it can do,” her grandfather answered. “The green one you mother had could send an electric shock through it. Your blue stones could not do that.”

Sharon thought about the electric shock the stone had given Mr. Wilson. “What is going to happen to Mr. Wilson?” she asked.

“To begin with, he has been told to stay away from me and anything to do with me,” said her grandfather, “And that includes my family, my business, and the people that work for me. It may be a while before we know for sure whether he will go to jail or exactly what his punishment will be. That’s up to a judge and a jury to decide.”

“Oh,” whispered Sharon softly. She felt sorry for his family and his daughters who liked to go shopping.

“Why did I need to have a necklace with many stones in it,” asked Sharon, “if all the blue stones were the same? Couldn’t the testing have been done just using one stone?”

“Each stone made the others stronger,” stated her grandfather, “The more stones there were in the necklace, the better we could see you and the better you could see our holograms. That was one of the things we were testing.”

“What made the necklace break?” Sharon wondered. “Was it something I did?”
