Chapter 2 – Working With the Stone . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . page 2

 
She moved around the kitchen. She turned to face different directions. The stone always pointed toward the door, unless her back was toward the door. Then it rested on her shirt and she felt the stone gently pushing her toward the door.

Oh,” thought Sharon, “it’s like a compass. I can follow it!”

Sharon finally walked to the door, opened it, and looked outside. The stone now pointed toward the woods in the direction of the village.

Well,” thought Sharon, “I’m not going to run out the door and into the woods without some supplies.”

She turned back into the house and returned to her room. She emptied her backpack and began to fill it with items she thought she might use.

Then she went slowly through the house adding additional items she thought would be helpful. Once she was back in the kitchen she placed some food at the top of her backpack and closed it.

She took a deep breath, put on the backpack, opened the back door, stepped out, and followed the stone into the woods surrounding her grandparents’ home.
