“With these,” said their father as he handed each a small rectangular package. “They’re called prisms. Be careful so you don’t break them. They’re made of glass.”

Carefully Father showed Mary and Marcus how to hold their prisms in the sunlight to create their very own rainbows.

“Oh,” said Mary suddenly. “I wonder if the prisms would work in the shoe box instead of the jar of water?”

“Why don’t you try it,” suggested her mother.

Mary did. It worked! Now, whenever she and Marcus wanted to brighten up their day with a rainbow, they could.
