That night, after Mary had been tucked into bed, she lay thinking about snow. She wondered if her rain machine could be adjusted to become a rain and snow machine. She wondered if she could make it snow just in her backyard. She wondered . . . . She wondered . . . .

Mary got out of bed. She went to the toy room and found her rain machine. She looked at it and decided she needed to make some additions and changes. She added a piece of this and another bit of that.

She had just finished and was ready to go to the back yard and test it, when she heard a noise, and then a voice asked, “What are you doing?”
